A steady diet of

imageGod made us. He knows our bodies and our minds. It is by perfect design that God uses eating and drinking as a metaphor for what we pursue, what we consume, what we worship.

Proverbs 4 says:

17 They eat the bread of wickedness
and drink the wine of violence.

when describing those who choose not-God.

Jesus tells us in John 6 that he is the alternative meal:

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

I am certain of this: You will eat and drink today, even if no food or liquid passes your lips. Choose God. Today. Right now. Everything else is empty calories, false nutrition. Saccharin for your spirit. Tastes sweet, no food energy.

Begin today’s Jesus-meal with gratitude. Follow this apéritif with worship. Fill up on his mercy and grace. Pass on the condemnation and doubt. Finish with faith. You will be sustained with unexplainable peace, hope, and joy.

This is truth: Because you will eat and drink, you must choose. The choice is God or not-God. You are on a diet. Fill in the blank.

A steady diet of _________.
