Not so silent night: The Word speaks

The four Gospels are filled with Jesus’ teaching and words of wisdom.  In John 14, Jesus comforts His disciples regarding His imminent death and resurrection. Verse 10 says:

The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

Let’s rewind several hundred years and hear what the Father says about the Son in Isaiah 55, where God invites all who thirst to come to Him and be satisfied. Verse 11 says:

so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Do you see the striking similarity? Jesus IS the word. In His time on Earth, He accomplished the redemptive work required to restore our relationship with the Father.

Merry Christmas!
